August, or Kolovoz in Croatian, is the last month of the summer season. August is a busy month for travelers with room rental prices being at their highest until around the 15th. You may also notice a lot of Italian tourists in Croatia because it is common for Italians to take their vacation at this time of year. The weather is at its hottest but around the middle of the month you will notice a more comfortable, cooler shift along the north coast, especially in the evenings. Listed below are several events happening in Croatia during the month of August.
Membrain Festival - Aug. 1st-4th, Šibenik
A large music festival that takes place at the Martinska Campsite across three stages with over 80 DJs from all over the world performing Bass, Drum, Dubstep, Global and Tropical music.
Salt Festival - August 1st, Nin
The town of Nin still produces salt the traditional way by hand harvesting and packing. This festival holds competitions, culinary experiences, workshops and tours of the salt pans, including all the different ways salt is used, not only in food but in cosmetics and skin care as well.

Fisherman's Day - Aug. 2nd-4th, Baška
This event began in 1910 as a fishing competition pulling nets from the sea. Today, this yearly event is an educational and entertainment experience for all ages on the island of Krk.
Medieval Festival - Aug. 2nd-4th, Svetvinčenat
This medieval festival takes place in central Istria. There are several activities and performances by 20 different associations from around Europe, including stories, a falconry show, equestrian tournaments, knight fights, archery, fencing, a fire show, craft workshops, street entertainers and medieval food, drinks and music.
Crikvenica Day - Aug. 14th, Crikvenica
This yearly summer festival celebrates the Assumption of Mary, the patron saint of Crikvenica. Throughout the week leading up to this date there is a full cultural, entertainment and sports program. In the evening there is a fireworks display from the sea.
Šilo to Crikvenica Swimming Marathon - Aug. 15th
A 3.5 kilometer race from the town of Šilo on the island of Krk to Crikvenica. Open to anyone from professional to recreational swimmers.

Baška International Guitar Festival - Aug. 17th-19th
Listing this on here specifically because I know it will be a favorite of my father's, being an avid guitar player. This festival features a full program of international guitarists performing at the church of Saint Lucy and all along the waterfront of this picturesque seaside town.

Sonus Festival - Aug. 18th-22nd, Zrće Beach
Near the town of Novalja, on the island of Pag, not far from the north coast, is one of the largest and most popular music festivals in the country. Some of the world's best DJs perform across three open-air clubs along the beach.
Renaissance Festival - Aug. 22nd-25th, Koprivnica
This medieval festival takes place inland, a little east from Zagreb. Full of knights, craftsmen, musicians, merchants, horsemen and several other entertainers. Attractions include a wooden maze, knight fights, medieval food, drinks and music.
Špancirfest (Strollers' Festival) - Aug. 23rd-Sept. 1st, Varaždin
Nicknamed the festival of "good vibrations" and celebrates art, music, dance and theatre of all kinds by performers from all over the world. Visitors can "stroll" throughout the city where stages are set up to feature street performances, musical programs, theatre, children programs, exhibitions, gastronomy and wine.
Dimensions Festival - Aug. 29th-Sept. 2nd, Tisno
Taking place in the town of Tisno, not far from the city of Zadar, is a music festival of house, techno, jazz, funk, soul, pop and more with 100s of musicians performing on several stages on the beach and on party boats.
